XoftSpySE Review
About XoftSpySE
XoftSpySE is an anti-spyware program that was developed by ParetoLogic Inc. As of its most recent update in November of 2007, XoftSpySE’s database has support for more than two hundred and thirty thousand different malware files. Both XoftSpySE and the Anti-Spyware program offered by ParetoLogic are able to utilize this database. The database goes through an automatic update once a week to check for new malware.
What Does It Do?
XoftSpySE was developed to detect and remove spyware, Trojan horses, malware, pop-up generators, and hijacks of the browser, keyloggers, and adware. The software will scan all of the processes running on your computer, all of your computer’s registry entries, and all of the files and folders on your computer. It offers the option to use back up files to restore your system, should something go wrong during the scan. The spyware scan itself is free, but there is a small fee to have XoftSpySE remove the threats. At this time XoftSpy will work with Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Unfortunately it has not yet proved to be Vista compatible.
Pros and Cons
The program itself is very easy to use. It installs and uninstalls easily, the scan is free and users have noticed that their computers run faster with XoftSpySE installed. The scan itself is very fast, which is nice. It takes up relatively little room on your hard drive but it still effective thanks to its database access. On the negative side, it does not always pick up all of the spyware that is installed. It will sometimes identify files and programs as spyware when it isn’t. While the scan is free, removing the spyware costs money, this struck us as a little bit odd. Its lack of real time protection is also a check against this software.
The Verdict
XoftSpySE has some good things and some slight bad things, and it is really up to you whether or not you download this software. With an equal amount of pros and cons, it really just boils down to what is most important to you. If you don’t want to pay for the spyware removal, then you shouldn’t download it. However, if you want a fast and thorough scan that won’t slow down your computer, you should download it. This anti-spyware software has good and bad points and they cancel each other out. You really pay for what you get.
